Obituary of Gerard (Gerry) Deschênes
On March 5, 2025, at the age of 85, Gerry Deschênes of Urbainville, PEI has made it safely home. We wish him a happy reunion with his parents (Isidore & Florence), his siblings, his in-laws and his many family members and friends that made it home before him.
Gerry was born in Quebec, but spent most of his adult life in Toronto, where he met his wife of 62 years, Yvette, and together they had three wonderful children: Gerald, Gary (Silvana) and Greg (Amanda). His family grew with the arrival of their grandchildren: Jonathan, Sean, Alyssa, Andrew, Natalie, Benjamin and Brooke. He was also fortunate enough to experience being a great grandfather to Amy. Gerry enjoyed the company of his children and grandchildren.
Gerry grew up in Rouyn-Noranda with his siblings: Jaqueline (Gonzague), Cécile (Raymond), Leonel (Janine), Jean-Claude, André (Nicole), Hélène and Monique (André). He was always happy to visit his siblings in his hometown, but was even happier when he could host them in PEI. Gerry and Yvette returned to PEI after spending over 30 years in Toronto. Together, as a retirement project, they operated Chez Yvette’s Bed and Breakfast in Urbainville for over 25 years.
Gerry also thought the world of his in-laws: Irene (Simon) Arsenault, Leona (Eldon) Gallant, Alva (Erma) Arsenault, Velma (Derek) Withers, Aldine (Bobby) Hitchcock, Alcida Brown, Raymond Arsenault, Rita (Raymond) Bernard, Leonce (Bernice) Arsenault and Lorraine Brown.
A special thank you to those who helped and visited Gerry in his last few years at the Summerset manor. A special thank you for the care he received by numerous staff members while at the Summerset long-term care facility.
We invite you all to join our family for a time of remembrance and celebration on Sunday, March 9, 2025 with visiting hours from 2 to 4 pm at the Evangeline Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held in his honour on March 10, 2025 at St. Philippe & St. Jacques Church, Egmont Bay at 11:00 am, where, at a later date, he will be laid to rest in the parish cemetery.
Until we meet again Dad \Gerry!
