Obituary of Mary Usher Gallant
February 15, 1934, ~ March 15, 2025
The death occurred peacefully, with family by her side, on March 15, 2025, at the Stewart Memorial Manor, Tyne Valley, of Mary McQuaid Usher Sneddon Gallant, formerly of Le Chez-Nous in Wellington and of St Chrysostome, at the age of 91 years.
Born on February 15, 1934, in Glasgow, Scotland, Mary was the beloved wife of the late Edward J Gallant (Eddy à Gill) and the cherished daughter of the late Andrew Sneddon and Georgina Anderson of Scotland.
Mary's journey began in Glasgow, where she became an orphan at 16 and worked as a telephone operator to support her family. Mary was a talented calligrapher and enjoyed ballroom/tap dancing in her youth in Glasgow. She later met the love of her life, her ‘Popeye’ and moved to Canada to become a proud military bride, starting a new chapter filled with promise and love. Known for her kindness and quick wit, she could joke around with anyone, wherever she went. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she spoiled them with love, treats, and laughter, often playing cards with them into the wee hours of the night.
Mary dedicated time to the community, actively participating in the Legion and the Ladies' Auxiliary. Her contributions made a lasting impact on both her family and the wider community.
Mary will be forever loved by her children: Edward, John, Jacques (Cynthia Alvarez), Geoffrey, and Janice (Danny Surprenant); son-in-law Norman Arsenault; grandchildren: John (Anyke), Melissa (Alan), James, Rachelle
(Mike), Eric (Julie), Cynthia (Fransico), Edward Jr. and Liam; also, by 14 great grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are her sisters-in-law: Theresa (late - Jack), Orella (late - Julien) and Doreen (late - Johnny) and by numerous nieces and nephews, with a special mention of nephew Davey Thomson.
Predeceased by her parents Andrew and Georgina, her husband Edward, her daughter Helen, her sisters: Ina, Nessie, Margaret, Christine and Helen; also, by her special sisters-in-law Sadie and Eleanor and by numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.
