Obituary of Floyd J. MacKinnon
November 16, 1946 – August 23, 2025
The death occurred peacefully at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, PEI on Saturday, August 23rd, 2025 of Floyd J. MacKinnon, at the age of 78 years.
Born in Amherst, Nova Scotia on November 16th, 1946 he was the son of the late Linus Cecil MacKinnon and Annie (Anne) Frances (nee LeBlanc) MacKinnon of Richmond, PEI.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving sister Cecelia, and brother-in-law Leonard Bell of Richmond, PEI. Floyd will also be remembered by many friends and relatives.
Floyd loved playing the fiddle; playing the fiddle isn't just about music; it's about emotion, growth, and connection. He was a member of the MacKinnon Scottish Family Band who performed all across the Atlantic Provinces, and some in Ontario. He shared his talents with many others by teaching them how to play the fiddle. For many years Floyd was also a salesman for Watkins and Rawleigh household products.
He was predeceased by his parents Linus (1988) and Annie (2009) MacKinnon.
Resting at the Évangéline Funeral Home, 900 Route 124, Urbainville, until Thursday, August 28 where visiting hours will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
A funeral mass will take place on Friday, August 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Paul’s Catholic Church, 289 Winter Street, Summerside,
Interment will follow the funeral mass at St. Patrick’s Parish Cemetery, 4284 Route 12, Grand River.
Donations in Floyd’s memory can be made to the Summerset Manor Equipment Fund, Summerside and/or St. John’s Children Orphanage, India, c/o Fr. Yasudasu Gorre would be greatly appreciated.
