It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Joseph “Oliver” Arsenault of Abram-Village, which occurred at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the age of 83 years.

Born in Maximeville, Prince Edward Island, Oliver was the beloved husband of Alphonsine (née Barriault) Arsenault and the cherished son of the late Élizée Arsenault and Théodosie (née Richard) Arsenault.

He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his four daughters: Erma (Eric) Cormier, Colleen (Daniel) Doucet, Paula (Christian) Perry, and Anne (Curtis) Doucette; his cherished grandchildren: Dakota Legere, Candace Perry, Josée Doucet (David), Éthienne Cormier, Émily Cormier, and Jérémie Doucet (Ella-Jane).

Oliver is also survived by his sisters and brother: Marguerite (Amand) Arsenault, Célina Gallant, Edgar Arsenault, and Alfreda Bernard (Pat); and by his sisters-in-law: Martina Arsenault, Victoria (Maynard) Ramsay, Norma Poirier, and Mae Arsenault; his many nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Brian MacNeil.

Besides his parents, Oliver was predeceased by his brothers and sisters: Irenée (Lorraine), Amand (Rita), Donat (Vitaline), Arsène (Julie Anne), Félicien (Ella), Honoré (Mélina), Alfred (Alice) Richard, Regis, Gérard (Kay), Tilmon, infants Madeleine and Gerard; and by his brothers- and sister-in-law: Amand Poirier, Joe Arsenault, Edward Gallant, and Eva Arsenault.

Oliver was a kind, caring, and gentle man whose devotion to his family never wavered. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his grandchildren, sharing laughter, stories, and cherished moments.

Oliver had a lifelong passion for horses, especially his beloved Belgian horse, Bobby, who was his pride and joy for 23 years. He loved the company of others and could often be found visiting family and friends, attending music sessions, or playing a game of Auction.

He also took great pride in his vegetable garden, tending it with care and dedication. Generous by nature, he was always happy to share the fruits of his labour with family, friends, and neighbours.

Oliver’s passing leaves a profound void in our hearts, but we take comfort in the many memories he leaves behind and the lasting impact he had on all who knew him.

Resting at the Évangéline Funeral Home, 900 Route 124, Urbainville, with visiting hours on Sunday, July 5, 2026, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

A celebration of Christian Mass will be held at Saint-Philippe et Saint-Jacques Church, Egmont Bay, on Monday, July 6, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., followed by interment in the parish cemetery.

Memorial donations in Oliver's memory may be made to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) or West Prince Caring Cupboard.
