Obituary of Poirier, Alfreda Marie

The death occurred peacefully on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at the Summerset Manor, with her family by her side, of Alfreda Marie (Gallant) Poirier of the Summerset Manor, Summerside and formerly of Le Chez-Nous, Wellington and St. Raphael at the age of 86 years. Alfreda was the daughter of the late Toussaint and Marie-Rose Gallant of St Raphael. Alfreda leaves behind her loving children Eric Poirier (Paulette), Jeannette (Gérard Richard), Colette (Marcel Richard), Roger Poirier, Ronald Poirier (Bonnie), Rita (Chris Gallant), Noella (Jacques Jomphe) and Robert Poirier. She is also survived by one sister, Lucie MacDonald (late Olaf MacDonald), stepbrother-in-law Alfred Richard (Alice), by 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband Yvon Poirier, her father and mother Toussaint and Marie-Rose Gallant, her parents-in-law Albin and Agn&egraves Poirier, her brothers Expédit (Anita) and Eloi (Clara), by her sisters Elva (Josie), Marie (Glorice) and Claudia (Victorin) and by her brothers-in-law Edmond (Léona), Sylvere (Doris), Omer and sister-in-law Rita (Russell). She was also predeceased by an infant-great-grandchild Luc Denis Richard. Alfreda was a member of "Les Dames du Sanctuaire de Mont-Carmel" and a member of "Le Club d'âge d'or de Mont-Carmel". Resting at the Évangéline Funeral Home, Urbainville, until Monday, September 9, 2019 then to the Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel Church for funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations in Alfreda's memory to the Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel Church or to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. FUNERAL; September 9, 2019 The funeral for the late Alfreda Poirier, wife of the late Yvon Poirier, of the Summerset Manor, Summerside and formerly of Le Chez-Nous in Wellington and St Raphael, was held on Monday, September 9, 2019, at the Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel Church, Mont-Carmel The celebrant for the Mass of Christian burial was Father Michel Painchaud, who delivered the homily and the prayers of farewell. Seated in the sanctuary was Father Eddie Cormier who co-celebrated the Mass. The readings were addressed by Jason Gallant and Jenny Poirier, with Robert Jomphe leading the congregation into the Prayers of the Faithful. Cross-bearer was Noel Gallant. The pall was placed by Alfreda's daughters Jeannette Richard, Colette Richard, Rita Gallant and Noëlla Jomphe. Pallbearers were Michel Richard, Daniel Richard, Denis Richard, Christopher Gallant, Jason Gallant and Robert Jomphe. Flower bearers were Taylor Poirier, Denise Gallant, Nicole Gallant and Amanda Poirier. Eucharistic Ministers were Father Painchaud and Diane Richard. The church and community choir was under the direction of organist Edmond Gallant. Attending the funeral was the management and staff of Le Chez-Nous and members of "Les Dames du Sanctuaire de Mont-Carmel". Interment took place in the Church Cemetery with Father Michel Painchaud doing the final prayers and committal service. Arrangements were entrusted to the Évangéline Funeral Co-op, Urbainville.
