Obituary of Gallant, Joseph Antoine

The death occurred peacefully at the Summerset Manor, Summerside on Monday, June 3rd , 2019 of Joseph (Joe) Antoine Gallant, aged 97, formerly of Le Chez-Nous, Wellington and Urbainville, beloved husband of the late Hél&egravene Gallant (née Arsenault). He was the last surviving member of his family. Born in Cap-Egmont on April 26, 1922, he was the son the late Albénie Gallant (step-son of Fid&egravele Arsenault) and Mélina Gallant (née Richard). Left to cherish his memory is his daughter Marie Gallant (Émile) of Dieppe, NB, grandchildren Réjean (Teresa), Gaston (Patsy) and Josette (Les MacAulay), great-grandson Chad MacAulay and numerous nephews and nieces. Joe will be sadly missed by his in-laws Alyre Arsenault, Peter (Rose) Arsenault, Albert (Norma) Arsenault, Yvonne Arsenault and Louise Arsenault. Predeceased by his wife Hél&egravene and his brothers Lévi and Alphé and sister Lucie Hitchcock also by many in-laws, aunts and uncles. He was a founding member of Le Club d'âge d'or de Baie-Egmont. In 2012, he received the award of "La petite Nyctale" and in 2013 was awarded the "Co-op Order of Merit". Resting at the Évangéline Funeral Home, Urbainville, until Thursday, June 6, then to the Saint-Philippe et Saint-Jacques Church, Egmont Bay for funeral Mass at 10:30am. Interment will follow in the Church cemetery. Visiting hours at the Évangéline Funeral Home, Urbainville, on Wednesday, June 5th from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe's memory to the Saint-Philippe et Saint-Jacques Church or to the Summerset Manor would be greatly appreciated. If you would like to send a message condolence to his family, please send an email to evangelinefuneralcoop@pei.aibn.com FUNERAL The funeral for Joseph (Joe) Antoine Gallant , beloved husband of Hél&egravene Gallant (née Arsenault ) formerly of Urbainville, was held on Thursday, June 6, 2019, at the Saint-Philippe et Saint-Jacques Church, Egmont Bay. The celebrant for the Mass of Christian burial was Father Albain Arsenault, nephew of the deceased, who delivered the homily and the prayers of farewell. Seated in the sanctuary were Father Michel Painchaud, who proclaimed the Gosple, and Father Eddie Cormier who co-celebrated the Mass. The first reading was addressed by Louis Gallant and the second reading was addressed by Carol Gallant. Louis Gallant led the congregation into the Prayers of the Faithful. Altar servers were Simone Arsenault and Zelma Arsenault. Cross-bearer was Elva Arsenault and candle bearers were Jean and Pierrette Arsenault. Eucharist Ministers were Father Albain Arsenault, Gloria Gallant and Cécile Gallant. Pallbearers were Réjean Gallant, Gaston Gallant, Chad MacAulay, Leonard Gallant, Bobby Hitchcock and Francis Bourque. Flower bearers were Josette MacAulay and Mona Richard. The church and community choir was under the direction of organist Edmond Gallant. Joe's passion and hobby was planting or transplanting tree seedlings. At the request of his family, his bucket and hand- tools used for his hobby were carried by Les MacAulay and were laid to rest with him. Interment took place in the Church Cemetery. Father Albain Arsenault conducted the final prayers and committal service. Arrangement were entrusted to the Évangéline Funeral Co-op, Urbainville.
