Obituary of Duffenais, Don

April 24th, 1943 - December 17th, 2021 The death occurred peacefully at Prince County Hospital of Don Duffenais on Friday, December 17th, 2021 after a battle with cancer. Born in Winter Houses, Newfoundland he was the first born of Ronald and Christine (Lainey) Duffenais. Don joined the military in 1962 and started his career with the Black Watch 1st Regiment at CFB Gagetown, N.B then on to the Princess Patricia Light Infantry at Work Point in Victoria, B.C. During his time in Victoria he changed trade and joined the EME (Electrical Mechanical Engineering) branch which transferred him to CFB Calgary. Then to CFB Lahr, Germany for maintenance on 40mm Boffins guns surrounding the Airfield. Upon repatriation back to Canada he was posted in CFB Borden where he worked with standards for Quality Assurance. He then was transferred as in house representative for QA for military contract in Kitchener, Ontario. Then on to Toronto at the technical Institute in charge of various components of military contracts. From there he took his retirement and went to work for DND in Ottawa to teach Quality Assurance. During his military career Don also did two six months tours with Peace Keeping in Cyprus and one six months tour in Egypt. Don is survived by his mother Christina, son Sean, Jeanne (estranged wife) and special friend and partner Lise. He is also survived by brothers Jack (Debbie), Matt, Percy, Wayne (Dale), sisters Betty Backman (Bill), Donna Norman, Pat Mesagno (Pete), and Iris Collier (Ross). Also survived by two grandchildren, goddaughter Bernice Arsenault Noonan, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father Ronald, sisters Olivine Coonce, Judy White, stepsister Pauline Young, stepbrother Leonard, sisters-in-law Phyllis Duffenais, Stella Duffenais, and brothers-in-law Leland Coonce, Willie Norman, Richard White. Resting at the Evangeline Funeral Home, Urbainville, PEI where private visitation for family and friends will take place on Monday, December 27th, from 6p.m - 8p.m. Proof of vaccination and ID are required. A funeral mass will be held at Saint-Philippe et Saint-Jacques church, Egmont Bay on Tuesday December 28th, at 11 a.m. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery at a later date. "as of December 23rd, with the new COVID restrictions in place the wake and funeral mass has been cancelled until further notice" As an expression of sympathy memorial donation in Don's memory can be made to the PEI Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
